Republican appointee Bryan Bigelow replaces the late Tony Dolce on City Council...
A newly-appointed member of the Jamestown City Council attended his first meeting during Monday night's Council work session.  Republican Bryan Bigelow was recently approved by city lawmakers to fill the unexpired term of late Second-Ward Councilman Tony Dolce... who passed away suddently back on July 18.  According to state election law... Mayor Kim Ecklund was required to make the appointment within 60 days of the vacancy.  The candidate must be from the same party, and same election district as the previous council member.  In addition... Bigelow is a 25-year resident of Ward-2... and, is known in the city as a long-time midget football coach.  He has submitted petitions to run in a special election in November against Democrat-endorsed candidate Jason Sample.  Sample is a former WJTN news and sports announcer... and, currently works for the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency.

Both Bryan Bigelow and Jason Sample put out Facebook statements about their decisions to run for the Ward-2 seat... and, paid homage to the late Tony Dolce.  Bigelow said the loss of Dolce -- "will be felt by many... He was known for his intellect, his passion, and his unwavering commitment to public service.  As a Northside resident for the past 25 years, I often saw Tony throughout the neighborhood, and our paths frequently crossed through the youth sports programs we were both fortunate to be involved in.  One of the qualities I admired most about Tony was his willingness to stop, listen, and truly hear the concerns of Ward 2 residents."  He says he hopes to continue that line of service.

Sample also confirmed that he was asked to run... and, had accepted the Democrat  endorsement run in November's special election to fill Dolce's seat.  In his statement... Sample said -- "Like so many others, I had great respect for Tony.  He was an outstanding public servant and a man of even greater integrity and character.  He was irreplaceable."  Sample says it was a very difficult decision... but, in the end... he felt that the voters in Ward-2 should be given a choice of who to vote for.

House fire in Silver Creek caused by malfunctioning lithium-ion battery...
A malfunctioning litium-ion battery is the apparent cause of an early morning house fire in the north county village of Silver Creek.  Sheriff's officers say Silver Creek and several other mutual aid departments responded to the scene at 330 Central Avenue shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday.  Once the blaze was put out... fire investigators were called in and found that a problem with the battery pack triggered the flames.  The fire was ruled as accidental.

Wendel says county will try again to regain EAS designation...
It was another setback to efforts to get commercial air service back to the Chautauqua County Airport near Jamestown.  However... the effort to get Essential Air Service back to the facility isn't over -- yet.  That from County Executive P.J. Wendel... who feels the U.S. Department of Transporation did not fully consider all the numbers presented by the county in it's most recent application... which he says show the right number of "catchments" in the region -- about 1,500 per day.  Wendel noted that at one time... commercial air service was not subsidized at the Jamestown Airport.  However... the Lakewood Republican says he was told during a recent session of the National Association of Counties organization that money is available from the U.S. DOT.  However... Wendel says if they aren't able to regain EAS status for the Jamestown Airport... they will look to continue in the direction of "General Aviation."  He adds there may also be the possibility of from funding from New York state to help out.  Wendel made his comments for last weekend's "Community Spotlight" program on the six Glenora Radio Network stations.

City man arrested for DWI after his motorcycle crashes into parked car...
A man from Jamestown is accused of drunk driving after his motorcycle crashed into a parked car on the city's southside last weekend.  Jamestown police say they were called to the scene at Newland Avenue and Sampson Street shortly before 4 a.m. last Saturday.  Officers say the motorcycle... operated by 43 year-old Brian Erickson... had hit the parked vehicle... and, they later found he was under the influence of alcohol.  They also found that Erickson had been convicted of DWI three other times in the past 10 years.  He was arrested for Felony DWI... Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle... and, multiple traffic violations.  Erickson was held pending arraignment.

Bills to address concerns over new stadium after Blue and Red scrimage...

The Buffalo Bills are responding to criticism over various issues at their new stadium — including partially obstructed sightline concerns -- by addressing them on a case-by-case basis, the team announced late Monday.  The criticism stems from fans getting their first full experience inside the $2.1 billion Highmark Stadium during the Bills annual Blue and Red practice on Saturday night. Though the Bills said a majority of the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, a few complaints arose, which team president Pete Guelli termed as coming from less than 1% of the personal seat licensing holders.  One of the larger concerns were seats with obstructed views, with several photos emerging on social media.
