Investigation continuing into Sunday house fire at apartment dwelling under renovation...
The investigation is continuing into Sunday afternoon's fire that damaged an apartment house undergoing renovations on Jamestown's southside.  City Fire Battalion Chief Shawn Shilling says firefighters were called to 6 East Newland Ave. shortly before 12:30 p.m., and, the first arriving crew came from a nearby station.  He says Engine-#3 at the Newland Ave. station first arrived... and, shortly after... an off-duty shift of 15 firefighters, and one commander, was called in.  Shilling says with the off-shift... crews were able to get the blaze under control in about 15 minutes.  He says no one was inside the building when the fire broke out... and, adds a neighbor called in the alarm to the two-family house.  Shilling says fire investigators were called in to look for the cause.  Crews were at the scene about two hours.


Apartment fire in Falconer heavily damages the apartment...
No one was hurt... but, an apartment building was heavily damaged by fire in the village of Falconer last Saturday morning.  Falconer firefighters were called to the scene at 337 West Main St. just after 7:30 a.m.  On the department's Facebook Page... Public Information Officer Billy Furlow says crews found heavy fire visable coming from a first-floor apartment... and, command conducted a primary search... clearing the apartment adjacent to the one on fire.  No one was home in the apartment of origin.  Crews then began clearing the two other apartments that were occupied in the building.  Furlow says it took about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control.  Mutual aid was called in from Kiantone... Kennedy... and, Gerry along with County EMS and others.  Most of the fire damage was to the apartment of origin.  The county's Fire Investigation Team is continuing to look for the cause.


City man sought on Felony warrant arrested following brief vehicle chase in Jamestown...
A man sought on a Felony arrest warrant faces multiple charges after allegedly leading city police on a brief car chase early last Saturday morning.  Jamestown police say a patrol spotted 24 year-old Joseph Chadwick driving a vehicle near North Main and East Second Streets shortly before 3 a.m.  Officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on Chadwick... but, he didn't comply... and, led police on the brief pursuit.  He finally stopped and was taken into custody.  Chadwick was charged with third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer... second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation... and, multiple other traffic violations... along with his outstanding Felony arrest warrant.  He was taken to the city jail pending arraignment.   


Comedy Festival tickets on sale, on-line -- beginning today -- for Comedy Center members only...
Pre-sale tickets are now on sale for members of the National Comedy Center for the headliner shows at this year's Comedy Festival.  That from Comedy Center Executive Director Journey Gunderson... who says those tickets are sold a few days prior to them going on sale to the general public at ComedyCenter.org.  Gunderson says there are other benefits to having a membership... including the ability to visit the center for free during the coming year.  She says they've received many five-star ratings on Google My Business.  The general public can begin ordering tickets -- on line -- this Friday, May 1 at 12 Noon.  This year's headliners are comedy legend Jerry Seinfeld... Seth Meyers... and, stand-up star Bert Kreischer.  Gunderson says Forbes Magazine says Kreischer "is one of the best story-tellers of a generation in comedy" who has played before sold-out arenas, and has a big following on Netflix.  While those three shows will be staged at the Northwest Arena... the Friday night, Aug. 7 show will be at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts... and, will feature the annual Stand-Up Showcase.  Gunderson made her comments for next weekend's "Community Spotlight" program on the six Media One Radio Group stations.


Legislature has now approved $217,000 in Government Reducation Initiative funding...
The Chautauqua County Legislature has now approved spending $217,000 of fund balance for three municipal or school consolidation efforts.  That after lawmakers last week approved $67,000 towards construction of a dog shelter facility in the town of Ripley, 16-2.  However... not everyone was happy about it.  Jamestown Democrat Robert Whitney says other shelters... like the Chautauqua County Humane Society... find other ways to fund operations.  Whitney says the county doesn't support that, and they find ways to "fund themselves."  The majority of lawmakers, though, approved the move... noting that smaller shelters often times will send dogs to the Humane Society after five days.  The shelter in Ripley would also be used by the towns of Clymer and Mina.  


Langworthy comments on shooting incident at hotel where White House Correspondent's Dinner was held, calls Secret Service and law enforcement's actions "heroic..."
Local Congressman Nick Langworthy is echoing President Donald Trump's comments in thanking the U.S. Secret Service for its courage and bravery under fire.  Agents had to stop a California man who ran a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton Hotel where the president and first lady were in attendence for the annual White House Correspondent's dinner.  Langworthy says one agent took a bullet to the chest that was stopped by his bullet proof vest.  It saved the agent's life, and prevented serious injury.  Langworthy says their "heroic and quick action saved the lives of many at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner."
