City man arrested on multiple-drug charges following early weekend traffic stop...
A Jamestown man wanted on a federal warrant has been arrested on numerous drug-related charges following a traffic stop in the city's northside early last weekend.  Jamestown police say they stopped a car shortly before 10 p.m. last Friday for multiple traffic violations.  However... just before the vehicle came to a complete stop... a passenger got out and tried to flee the scene.  Officer's caught 31 year-old Kyle Lewis after a brief foot chase... and, found him in possession of a quantity of a Methamphetamine/Fentanyl mix... along with a digital scale... and, a large amount of cash.  In addition to the federal arrest warrant... Lewis was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance... second-degree criminally possessing drug paraphernalia... and, second-degree obstructing governmental administration.  He was jailed pending arraignment.


Buffalo woman arrested on DWI, speeding charges in Gerry...
A Buffalo woman is accused of driving drunk... and speeding... following a traffic stop on Route 60 in the town of Gerry early last Saturday.  Sheriff's officers say they stopped the vehicle... driven by 34 year-old Lyndsay Foster... shortly before 2 a.m. for driving more than the 55 mile an hour speed limit.  They also found she was driving while intoxicated.  Deputies arrested Foster for DWI... Aggravated DWI... and, speed over 55 mph.  She was issued appearance tickets for Gerry Town Court at a later date.


City Council to vote on providing more ARPA funding to Watershed Conservancy...
The Jamestown City Council will vote tonight on a proposal to use another $327,000 to clean up, restore and stabilize the Chadakoin River Basin east of the Main Street Bridge.  City Development Director Crystal Surdyk says it's part of an original $500,000 allocation of American Rescue Plan Act funding to be used by the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy for the project... which will go towards the matching requirement for state funding.  Surdyk says the money has already been approved by the Jamestown Local Development Corporation... and, will be used to stablize and restore the eroded river bank in several locations... and remove remaining debris that impedes navigation of the river... including trees and other items on top of -- or at the bottom -- of the river.  She says... if lawmakers have any additional questions... Watersheld Conservancy Director Twan Leenders will be available to answer them before tonight's monthly voting session.  That gets underway at City Hall tonight at 7:30 p.m. 


City man arrested for violating order of protection...
A Jamestown man has been arrested for allegedly being in the presence of a juvenile who has a "stay-away" order of protection against him.  City police were doing a compliance check with Chautauqua County Probation at a southside location shortly before 6 p.m. last Friday... and, found 32 year-old Neal Cox inside the residence with the juvenile victim.  Cox was arrested for second-degree criminal contempt... and, was taken to the city jail pending arraignment.


Maple Weekends conclude on high-note for region...
The 27th annual Maple Weekend's concluded successfully at some 180 producers across New York state Sunday... including several in Chautauqua County.  One of the local producers was Big Tree Maple near Lakewood.  Owner Lloyd Munsee says the larger numbers turned out on Saturdays... and, for the second year in a row... they had a 10-minute video to show everyone that stopped by... that shows the process of making maple syrup.  Munsee says a local school student with an interest in videography made the video for them.  Maple Weekends is traditionally held the last two weekends of March... and, features maple syrup... and other products like maple candy... and, maple cream.  Some locations... such as Sprague's in Portville... also serve pancakes for people who stop by.  Several local producers took part in both Maple Weekends the past two weekends.

With warmer than normal temperatures this Winter until the past couple of weeks... some people wondered what kind of 'sap run' there would be.  Lloyd Munsee says... while the season started early... it went well.  He says they actually boiled sap for the first time on Feb. 9... and, adds some producers were making syrup in January.  Munsee says the syrup this year was a "light" color... adding that very few producers were reporting a "dark" color syrup.  He says they're going to wind up with a "full crop" this year.


Local officials blast Parole Bd. decision to parole Edward Kindt...
The New York State Parole Board has approved the release of a man convicted of brutally raping and killing a Salamanca woman on a jogging path on Mother's Day of 1999.  Edward Kindt... who's now 39 years-old... was sentenced to nine-years in prison during his trial because he was 15 years-old at the time he killed Penny Brown.  Local State Senator George Borrello... and others... are expressing outrage because Kindt could be released as soon as this Wednesday, Mar. 29.  Brown was out jogging with her two dogs when she was ambushed and sexually assaulted by Kindt... who ultimately strangled her with her dog’s leash.  Since he was 15 at the time... Kindt was spared a life term on his plea to second-degree murder and sentenced to nine years to life in prison, the maximum available for a juvenile at the time.
