News Update for Mon., Jan. 6, 2014

City police looking for would-be female bandit in connection with attempted robbery at East Second St. store...

Jamestown police are asking for the public's help in finding a woman who tried to rob the U.S. News Store on East Second Street yesterday morning.  City officers were called to the scene at 1377 East Second about 9:15 a.m., and, learned the unidentified white female entered the store... and, handed an employee behind the counter a note demanding money from the register.  However... the employee tried to engage the alarm... and, was shoved away from the counter by the female bandit.  The suspect then fled the scene -- without any money -- in a westerly direction from the plaza.  The woman is described as being in her late 20s to early 30s... and, was about 5'5" to 5'7" inches tall, and weighing about 120 pounds.  The suspect was also allegedly wearing a brown Carhart-style jacket with a brown winter hat and green scarf.  Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call city police at 483-7531... or the confidential tip-line at 483-8477.


Blaze that damaged The Pub, and Lisciandro's Restaurant determined to be electrical in nature...

Sunday night's fire that heavily damaged the front part of a North Main Street building housing The Pub and Lisciandro's Restaurant was electrical in nature.  That from Jamestown fire officials... who say the blaze originated near the front entrance to The Pub Jamestown firefighters were called to The Pub at 209 North Main Street about 7:05 p.m.  Fire Battalion Chief Roger Sigular says several passers-by called in the alarm.  He says first responding units found heavy smoke coming from all three floors of the building... which also houses Lisciandro's Restaurant.  Sigular says crews found the bulk of the fire on the first-floor... and, firefighters made a good stop on the flames.  He says there was heavy smoke and fire damage to the front interior front part of The Pub... where the bar-area is located.  He says Lisciandro's Restaurant has some light smoke damage.  There was some minor fire damage on the second and third floors.  Sigular says neither business was open at the time of the fire... and, no one was hurt.
