Three people are jailed after allegedly being found in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine and, with a one-month old child inside a home on Jamestown's northside.
City police say Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force members raided a home at 130 Euclid Avenue about 9:30 AM Thursday. Officers say they found 39-year-old Steven Kent and 43-year-old Ashley Burkes, both of Jamestown along with James Williamson inside.
Police say they also reportedly found a quantity of Meth, and the infant child. Kent and Burkes have been charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of drug paraphernalia. Burke was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child and, Williamson with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
All three were sent to the county jail with bail to be set. The child was turned over to Child Protective Services. Anyone with information of the trafficking of illegal drugs in the Jamestown area is asked to contact the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force anonymous tip line at 483-TIPS... that's 483-8477.
April "Rain showers" gave way to some April "Snow Showers" overnight.
That from Forecaster David Thomas with the National Weather Service in Buffalo who says we are under a Winter Weather Advisory through 2 PM today. Thomas says colder air will moved in during the late evening dropping the ovenright low to about 30 to 32 degrees. He says the rain we got yesterday was turning as the mercury dropped.
Thomas says we won't see a lot of snow accumulation in the immediate Jamestown-area unless you're at one of those higher elevations. He says generally the lower snow totals will be along the Lake Erie shoreline.
Thomas says while the ground and other surfaces are warm enough to melt the snow there will be enough in some places to cause slippery conditions. He says there will also be some accumulation in those area.
Thomas says the snow will begin tapering off by early afternoon. He adds it'll get back into the mid-40s on Saturday... and, by Monday... we'll see the low to mid-70s.
The State Senate has gone home and, the Assembly is likely to follow after budget negotiations broke down in Albany Wednesday night.
Chautauqua County's Assemblyman, Andy Goodell, a Republican says Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo stood firm on a few issues after he got much of what HE wanted in the budget extension approved earlier in the week by the legislature.
He adds that Foundation Aid for public schools, and how much money should go to charter schools remain unresolved due mainly to teacher's union opposition to funding for charters. Goodell says the governor proposed a significant increase for charter school funding.
He says he thought there was fundamental agreement on raising the age of criminal responsibility from 16 to 18... but problems emerged in the details
The local Assemblyman said it is likely there will be increased aid for New York college students, but the plan for free tuition will not be part of final agreement.
The members of the legislature probably won't be back in Albany for a couple of weeks.
Goodell says the stress will be particularly bad for downstate lawmakers from high cost of living districts as the state legislature does NOT get paid until the full budget is done.
There is still no final deal on a $150-billion, 2017-18 state budget plan.
That after negotiations on a handful of items... including non-budgetary ones... broke down late Wednesday night. Governor Andrew Cuomo says several outstanding issues remain namely three in particular.
However Cuomo does say passage of the budget extender this past Monday keeps state government operating.
It also approved funding for economic development and construction projects for the entire year. Cuomo says quote "that's important." Due to the lack of an agreement education aid, Cuomo says state aid runs for local school district will use a 3.9% increase in funding under the executive budget.
The governor indicated that aid figures will be adjusted once a final budget agreement is reached.
After holding steady in recent weeks gas prices in the Jamestown-area have climbed about two-cents a gallon this week.
The AAA's Fuel Gauge Report says locally the price is up 2.1 cents to just over $2.48 a gallon for regular, unleaded.
Nationally AAA says the average price is up 4-cents a gallon to $2.33 a gallon. The Fuel Gauge says that's one-cent more compared to one month ago and 27 cents more than the same date last year. National gas prices have increased six of the last seven days.
Dairy farms in Wisconsin and other states could be forced out of business as early as May because of a trade dispute that's halted the export of their milk to Canada.
At issue is a U.S-Canada dispute over what's called "ultra-filtered milk," a protein liquid concentrate used to make cheese. Until recently it had entered Canada duty-free from the United States.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Canadian dairy farmers objected, resulting in Ontario and other provinces applying import taxes.
